The NHS also contracts with AWC Counselling to provide a service to some of its staff as a form of employee assistance. NHS staff often work with circumstances that can result in stress, distress, fatigue and injuries that render them emotionally vulnerable.

Some local employers such as Housing Organisations, GP Surgeries and local Businesses have referred individual members of staff who might have been off work or at risk of taking time off work. They fund assessments plus 6 therapy sessions and, if requested, fund further sessions until the individual has completed their work.

Counselling doesn’t work if a client feels obliged to participate, however. Clinical assessment will enquire as to whether a person is voluntarily attending or whether they have been ‘sent’ by their employer.
