LIFE CHANGING WORK
Aire, Wharfe and Craven Counselling (AWC Counselling) was established in 2017 after a merger between Aire Valley Counselling, a community interest company set up in 2011, and Versa Organisation Ltd, a charitable company, set up in 1997. The time had come to modernise what had first begun its life, in 1983, as Keighley Women’s Centre. These organisations have consistently moved with the times, re-inventing themselves to keep pace with the community’s demand for relevant services. AWC Counselling is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) – a new type of charity offering straightforward, robust governance and accountability with greater freedom to raise funds and sustain itself.
Why you might need to talk to someone
AWC provides a range of talking therapies and can help with issues such as; current and/or past abuse(s), depression, stress, mental ill health, anxiety, trauma, PTSD, panic attacks, difficult changes and transitions, low confidence / self-esteem, self-harm, relationship difficulties, work problems, inability to cope and other issues leading to harm and/or distress to the individual and those around them. ACT also has expertise in medically unexplained symptoms and childhood sexual abuse.
As will be discussed in the initial session, everything said in the therapy room stays with the therapist. This confidentiality is only broken if the Client is at risk of harming themselves or other individuals or, is at risk of harm from others. If there are any such concerns, they will be discussed with the Client and if the Counsellor/Psychotherapist continues to have concerns this information will be shared with an appropriate professional under the organisation’s safeguarding policies and procedures.
For professional reasons, the practitioners discuss all clinical work with a Supervisor. This ensures the safety of the clients and is part of the British Association of Counselling & Psychotherapy Ethical Framework. If you have any complaints regarding a Counsellor or the counselling you are receiving, we want to encourage you to contact the Head of Service, or the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy on: 01455 883300
Where we work
AWC-Counselling work throughout the localities of Aire, Wharfe and Craven. We have recently moved to a central office within The Cavendish Business Centre 11 – 17 Cavendish Street Keighley, having previously operated from New Devonshire House Keighley.
The move was aimed at increasing access for clients and also in assisting in the sustainability of the organisation for the future. The move was financially supported by the landlords of New Devonshire House, Shillelagh Properties, whose belief in our service and the relevance of the work we do in our local area, was of considerable benefit in aiding our transition to our new premises.
