Charles has recently retired from the Department of Health, where he worked both as an operational researcher and, more recently, in general policy analysis. He has wide experience of the interface between the public sector and non-governmental organisations; among many other roles he was closely involved in the setting up of the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE). He has taken a particular interest in mental health issues since his wife trained as a counsellor and has been a trustee of Versa, one of AWC Counselling’s predecessors, since June 2014.
