WHAT WE DO

We offer a choice of Talking Therapies

We offer both Counselling and Psychotherapy depending on your presentation and needs, however, all clients must be able to engage in therapy. Where an individual is considered to be severely mentally unwell or highly distressed, immediate therapy may not be possible. AWC Counselling can support and advise people on how to become ready for therapy. Confidentiality means that we do not share information with other agencies. The only exceptions to this are where specific laws are being broken e.g. involvement in terrorism, abuse of vulnerable individuals. The rules around confidentiality and contracting will be fully explained. Initial therapy sessions are limited and clients are expected to define goals and work to achieve them. These goals are then reviewed every 6 weeks to ensure that progress is being made.  Where clinical and ethical need is identified, additional sessions can be added to the initial contract under specific circumstances.

Aire Wharfe & Craven Counselling Service has a Clinical Manager who governs all work with clients. Each therapist has both a clinical supervisor outside of our organisation and a Clinical Manager internally, to ensure that work is professionally delivered in ways that promote client well-being and recovery. There are appropriate policies, procedures and expertise internally and if not, externally to maintain standards for the service so that funders and professional bodies have confidence in the provision.

Each therapist is a member of a professional body often linked to the way that they were trained. Each professional body is then linked to 2 main membership agencies: The British Association for Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP) and the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapists (UKCP). All therapists have to be supervised and participate in a minimum number of training hours per year to sustain their practice. AWC Counselling is an organisational member of the BACP and uses their professional standards and Code of Ethics as governing tools to help manage the quality of work delivered. Professional standards and ethics provide consistency across the various types of therapy offered.

Aire Wharfe & Craven Counselling is part funded by Bradford District Care NHS Foundation Trust who provide all statutory mental health services locally and part fund many voluntary agencies who provide services like ours.

The service provides placements to a small number of students training to become counsellors and psychotherapists. We recruit on the basis of an individual’s CV; type of training; 2 interviews; references; and other appropriate criteria. All students have a comprehensive induction and are clinically supervised.

Clients can directly contact the Clinical Manager at any time to discuss their work with their therapist.  All client work is evaluated confidentially.

AWC Counselling has a complaints procedure and is open to feedback.
